spinning threadEvery community in Monjong is a weaving community. Women's groups thrive, and one can find housewives weaving at every corner.

Most groups make local Karen hill tribe traditional cloth (bags, shirts, dresses, wraps, blankets) on the traditional back-strap loom.

Here, a woman from Nam Dan village spins thread from local seed pods.

The Karen hill tribe in particular is known for using local, natural materials and co-existing with the environment, from medicines to agriculture to clothing.

Pictured to the right is a scarf made from hand-spun thread and colored with a dye made from dried, boiled coconut husk.

Blae-Dii is the leader of Nam Dan's women's weaving group. Most of their products are for local use and are not sold outside the village.

Nam Dan also has many creative elderly women who design complex weaving patterns.

Huay May Hok has the largest weaving group in Monjong, with over 150 members.
